Jason Derulo中文譯為傑森·德魯洛或傑森·德魯羅，原名Jason Desrouleaux,於1989年9月21日在美國佛羅裏達州邁阿密出生，父母皆為海地人。他改變了他原名的拼寫作為自己的藝名。Derulo在他五歲的時候就開始表演並在他八歲時寫了他的第一首歌《crush on you》。年輕時學習歌劇，戲劇，芭蕾。為學習藝術他進入了位於福羅裏達州的迪拉德中心，畢業於在紐約的美國音樂戲劇學院。12歲時，Derulo遇見了他未來的經理弗蘭克哈裏斯，一個法學院的學生，這個學生同時幫助他提高了他的籃球技巧。 Derulo從16歲起一直在為包括Diddy, Danity Kane, Donnie Klang, Sean Kingston, Cassie, and Lil Mama等藝人作曲，意圖成為一個歌手。在他獲得阿波羅電視秀的冠軍後他被音樂制作人J.R. Rotem發現並將他簽下進入Beluga Heights and Warner Bros.
